Winter Driving
WINTER is already here and so making sure that your car starts in the morning is essential.
Many of us have already had to scrape ice off our windscreens in the morning but who has checked that their anti-freeze levels are OK?
And are you sure that your battery is in tip-top condition?
Winter can take its toll on car batteries, but some basic maintenance can help to prolong their life.
Keep the top of the battery clean and dry and make sure the terminals are tight and free from corrosion. And ensure that the battery itself is mounted securely in its tray.
If your battery is more than three-years old, check it now; you might save yourself many a frustrating start to a morning.
Make sure your wiper blades are in good condition. If they squeak as they wipe, they probably need replacing, and always make sure they are turned off before starting the ignition to save the blades and the risk of a blown motor fuse when the first frost hits.
In cold weather, clear windscreens of condensation or ice before setting off. Always give yourself extra time, to ensure visibility is at an optimum before starting your journey.
And of course it is vital that your tyres are in tip top condition. Grip is essential in wet and icy weather and bald tyres can lead not only to accidents but to fines and points on your licence as well.
But if you need some help or don't have time the team at Willie McLernon's three Farmer Autocare sites are offering their customers a FREE Winter Vehicle Safety Check.
